The four wives of Jacob Hazzard?

First Marriage

Jacob Hazzard, Blacksmith, appears in the Orphans Court dockets and minutes of both Sussex and Kent counties, Delaware as a petitioner and guardian and also as a Court appointed valuer and appraiser of real and personal property in Sussex county. The Register of Kent county recorded settling the estate of John Parker, brother of Hazzard’s wife Nancy, “from Court to Court”, a long drawn out affair. Was he married four times? The objective is to clarify his identity. Essay proceeds chronologically through each of his marriages which allows identification of and the depth of his kinship relationships in Sussex, Delaware.

Estimated birthdate based on a legal age of twenty-one years at the time of his first marriage, 1745.

Hazzard’s will made 1808 names several children including David C Hazzard & Jane Hazzard, the children of his first-born son, William Craig Hazzard. His grandchildren and wife of his decd son, William Craig Hazzard, widow Betsy, bring an action against the heirs and legal representatives of his estate. She expects to receive the allowance Jacob Hazzard paid during the life of William Craig Hazzard ?
